When it comes to photography, sometimes there is “a perfect storm” (as my husband calls it) of subject, lighting and environment. Women and horses will always captivate us- they embody a kindred grace, beauty, and mystery that cause us to stare in awe. When we add the poetry of a winter snow to this mix, a dramatic photograph happens with little effort at the hands of the photographer. I’m grateful for the chance this pass weekend to shoot my friend Kate out on her parents farm. We might both be crazy for daring the elements as we did, but it is this brazen boldness to bare the freezing cold that brought forth these images below (and I say it was worth it. Thank you beautiful and dear Kate!)…

Truly such great photos! I’m amazed at how well the composure is kept in the snow! Great use of lighting and contrast!
Thanks Derek! The light was beautiful- but Kate is gorgeous so it made my job easy!
These are absolutely stellar. I’m a recent discoverer of your work, and I’m such a fan. Beautiful, beautiful job!
